Trackpad vs Trackball

Thank goodness they are getting rid of trackballs and putting track pads in phones now!!! The trackballs are a headache. They have to be cleaned all the time and if you use your phone or PDA a lot you go through a trackball every couple of months. Trackballs in my opinion were the worst thing that happened to phones. The trackball was the primary problem for most phones that had them. The trackpad on the other hand is by far a great upgrade. No cleaning, or having to worry if your cursor will work!! The trackpad is helping the cell phone move in the right direction and it is getting better and better as new phones come out with it.

Locked vs Unlocked Phones

I always get the question "what is the difference between locked and unlocked Phones?"  Well I would start off by saying, this only applies to GSM phones. In the US most phones are locked due to the fact that you purchase a phone through your carrier, and with a contract. All GSM phones can be unlocked to work with any GSM network with there SIM card. After a certain amount of time your carrier can give you the unlock code so your phone will work world wide. If you do not leave the continental US you really don't need to unlock your phone. If you are frequent traveler it helps because you can change your SIM to the carrier you choose when you travel. What is also good about and unlocked phone is if you choose to change carriers in the US its is easy to, and you do not have to purchase a new phone. That is the difference between locked vs unlocked cell phones.

How To: Clean TrackBall

Most of the time when Having Trackball issues they can be solved by cleaning it. It is a very simple and easy process.  The following is what you are going to need.
  1. Rubbing Alcohol
  2. Non abrasive cloth (no towels or paper towels, old t shirt will work if nothing is available)
  3. Caned Air (will help but not necessary)

iPhone vs BlackBerry

Oh my, oh my were to start!!!! They are both excellent phones and they get better as time goes on, and new models come out. They both have great features and an abundance of functionality.  Both Apple and Blackberry are top manufactures and have some of the most advanced mobile technology around. Both phones have great uses and things that one can do that the other can't.

Email

Blackberry is by far better when it comes to emailing in general. For example if I were to send a email from my computer to myself the Blackberry would receive it faster than the iPhone would. When it comes to spam and junk mail there are better filters in a Blackberry then iPhone. On a Blackberry setting up email hosts is so simple no pop info is needed. Microsoft exchange server is a click away and supported by RIM(Research in Motion), who is Blackberry's developer. Opening attachments in an email is simple until you realize it is  something other then Microsoft format then it gets difficult and sometimes can't be opened. That is my only problem with Blackberry email.

The iPhone has a lot of good but a lot of bad. The email on iPhone is easy to set up for yahoo, gmail, mobile me, and AOL but if you have Microsoft exchange or a private email server, it is so difficult. Apple does not support or even help trouble shoot Microsoft change server or pop servers like optimum.net, Verizon.net, or even a go daddy host sites. If you have a problem forget about it, because no one is going to help you!!! The best thing about email on the iPhone is it opens all attachments with no problem.

Web Browser
The Blackberry browser is not the greatest and is sometimes not the easiest to use. If you wanted to save a picture to the phone it's a long process.  You have to zoom in large enough to were the phone can recognize it is a picture.  You then have to click the menu button, scroll down to save image, choose were you want to save the image, and how you want to save it. The web browser is very tedious and kind of annoying.

The iPhone's web browser is so simple and is pretty enjoyable. You can zoom, cut, paste,  save an image and even watch video with one or two fingers. The iPhone's browser can keep you entertained for a long time. Reading articles is so easy with one finger zoom, and one finger scrolling. The iPhone makes you want  to read when your surfing the web because it is so easy.

Telephone
The telephone on the Blackberry is good but the keypad is bad. Receiving calls is simple to answer, it is making the calls that is difficult. The keypad is in the center of the keyboard, if you accidentally hit a letter while typing in a number it throws off the whole number. With the way technology is going the phones are getting smaller so that means the keypads are also ( if you have chubby or big finger BEWARE). Those great features such as call waiting, three way and speaker in the Blackberry are a pain to access, you must hit the menu button, and then scroll and click on them.

The telephone on the iPhone is a lot simpler to use. The keys are larger and when dialing a number with a letters in a number it is a lot easier too dial then with the Blackberry.  A phone call is one finger click away.  What is good about the telephone is when the phone is up to your ear it blacks out and you don't have to worry about pressing any buttons.  If you need to put a call on hold or do a three way conversation all you have to do is take the phone off your ear and those features return to the screen.

Text Messaging
Who makes phone calls anymore!!!! Texting is the new phone call.   Texting makes everything short, sweet and too the point. Both phones are great to text with because of the full keypads, no more clicking the number 2 three times for the letter C.

Texting on the Blackberry can't get any easier you have a full keyboard at your finger tips.
You can type a text in the time it would take you type a phone number. What is so good about Blackberry is now days we are lazy and we feel the need to use shorter formats for words like instead of typing "with" we use "w/" and the spell check does not correct it and it makes life easier. With the text on Blackberry you also have this great feature called BBM (Blackberry Messenger) which allows you to contact anyone with a Blackberry worldwide in text format on any carrier, all you need is Wifi or a data connection. With BBM you can contact anyone around the world without those crazy international text rates, it is a free service that comes with any Blackberry purchase.

Texting on the iPhone is horrendous the spell check butchers your text and cannot be turned off.  Sometimes if you are fast typist there is a lag in the speed of the touchscreen.  Finally, MMS (Multimedia messaging Service) was added after three years of customers begging Apple to add the service. The only good thing about Apples text messaging is it started the conversation style testing so you know who said what.

Contacts & Organization
The average person has 60 contacts in their phone and organizing and keeping them safe is real important to us as consumers. Our phones are with us 24/7. In your Blackberry or iPhone you are able to put all contact info from address, to all telephone numbers, to websites, and email. The only thing you are missing is a finger print and maybe a blood sample!!

The Blackberry is one of the easiest phones to find contacts in. All you have to do is type the first letter of the name or business and all of the listings starting with that character  comes up.  But when it comes to adding contacts it is not that easy, you have to go back to that never ending use of the Menu button.  Keeping your calendar and alarms organized is simple, it allows you to color coat so you can differentiate from work, personal and so forth. To sync your calender with your computer you must plug it into your computer, and that is my only down side.

The iPhone is great for contact and organization. the iPhone come with this great feature called spotlight. Spotlight is were you scroll your screen all the way to the left and type what you are looking for and it will search your whole phone and the web. The calendars on the iPhone are very easy to read and can be color coated as well. The iPhone has the great service called mobile me were it is an email, calendar, contact, and photo gallery. This service is a wireless syncing solution. When you read and email it will mark as read, when input a new calendar info it is imputed online and on the computer. This service syncs you up on your phone, internet and computer, you always have access to it.

Social Networking
Who doesn't  have a facebook or a myspace these days. Everyone is on one site or another, and because we are so obsessed with them we now base our phone choices on the accessibility of social networking . With the Blackberry and iPhone social networking is so easy and just a click or a tap away. On both phones you have the access to the sites via web browser or application. Both phones allow you to stalk friends and family just as much as the other. Both Blackberry and iPhone are great for social networking and no phone compares to them when it come to social networking.

If I had to choose I would not know which one to pick, that is why I own both phones!!! I wish you could pick and choose the best traits in both phones and create an iBerry. Both phones are excellent and that is why they are the top manufactures and sell the amount of phones they sell. They are both leading companies in innovation and first class technology. As long as these companies produce phones this argument will go on forever.

Why is my battery not holding a charge??

This is the $1000 question that seem to never go away. Here are some ways to Save battery Life!!!
  • Turn off Bluetooth when not on use
  • Turn Off Wifi
  • Turn Off or Use Air Plane Mode when in an area with little or no signal
  • Adjust Screen Brightness / back-light settings
  • Turn Off 3G network
  • Turn Off Auto Check On Email Accounts
  • Change ringer from loud to normal and turn off vibrate
  • Close out all applications
  • Lock Key Pad
  • Turn Off key pad lights
If you try some of the procedures above, I assure you that the battery life will be a lot better.  If you are still having charging issues, you might want to consider purchasing an extended life battery for your unit.
